Throughout his young career, Matthew Nielson has shown his technical prowess as a pianist and as a musician with a unique artistic sense. His parents first recognized his musicality at the age of 9, when after a single viewing of the movie Up, he could play its theme song from memory on the piano. Nielson then was put into piano lessons and quickly developed his skills, winning many local competitions, incuding the Salt Lake City Piano Competition, the Utah State Piano Competition, and the Utah Youth Guild Competition. In 2016, he won the Salute to Youth Competition, which enabled him to make his symphonic debut as a soloist with the Utah Symphony at age 16.
After this prodigious childhood, Nielson turned his gaze toward a more contemporary sound, enrolling at Berklee College of Music on a scholarship. Matthew also has found joy in playing with bands and teaching piano students. He now pursues writing music of his own in a unique mix of R&B, jazz, pop, and postmodern styles, and plans to debut his originals this year.
