Fernando Brandão presents a clinic on Brazilian music, focusing on articulation, phrasing, styles, improvisation, and rhythmic variations. He examines notation, interpretation of syncopated rhythms, and melodic characteristics and improvisation elements of each style.

The clinic includes practice, readings, assignments, transcriptions, and listening of examples from several recordings. Melodic interpretation will be analyzed through the study of choro, samba, partido alto, bossa nova, and frevo styles, among many others. Students will learn to differentiate and appropriately use jazz, urban, and folk articulations. They will improve technique and improvisation skills that relate to those styles.
