Visiting Artist Sumie Kaneko Demonstrates the Shamisen

Visiting artist Sumie Kaneko, an accomplished performer on the Japanese shamisen and koto, presents a demonstration and performance.
Born in Chiba, Japan, Kaneko began playing koto at age 5 and shamisen at 15. Kaneko graduated from Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music in 2000, where she was trained on shamisen and koto. She has performed at Carnegie Hall, Blue Note New York, and Yo-Yo Ma’s Silk Road Project, as well as concerts throughout South America, Europe, and Asia.
