The Berklee/BOCO Martial Arts Club
The Berklee/BOCO Martial Arts Club is based on the exploration of different martial arts disciplines such as shaolin, karate, muay thai, kickboxing, jiu-jitsu, tricking, taekwondo, acrobatics, and more.
Using martial arts as a medium, this club aims to offer a place for members to develop a healthy and hard-working mindset; maintain and improve fitness levels; and learn to defend themselves in a safe, supportive, and supervised environment.
Mission & Vision
Through the exploration and education of different martial arts such as shaolin, karate, Brazilian jiu-jitsu, kickboxing, and others, members will develop a sense of situational and physical awareness—as well as an individually suited set of skills applicable in a variety of self-defense situations. The club also strives to foster individual mental and physical health, wellness, and fitness through both modern and traditional philosophies, all while conforming to individual comfort levels.
The core values of this club are entirely founded upon the individual satisfaction of its members in relation to the training, accessibility, growth, and comfort of its members. Maybe it's a student who always wanted to learn how to defend themselves but is discouraged by the high-pressure environment of a dojo or training gym. Or maybe they're an experienced practitioner who doesn't have the time or money to dedicate to continue their training, and simply needs a weekly refresher.
The club is meant to serve as a costless, pressure- and judgment-free alternative to the gyms and dojos around Boston; a place where students are able to come and learn from their peers. Members are not pressured in any way to achieve a set standard. They aren't expected to attend every meeting or to overwork themselves constantly. Expectations will be tailored to the individual, just like the set of skills they they develop in the club. Martial arts training is, after all, an individualistic journey, and taking things at one's own pace is a key aspect of that journey.
